I took a rocket to the moon once, on a night a long time ago
The night I shuttled to the moon was quite a fright and very cold
Look out the window see the Earth disappear
The shuttle lands and it was clear - I'm on a rock, oh god.
I suited up and took my first step on the white dirt we see from home.
Seven steps I look behind me to see my shuttle, it had flown.
I try to run in its direction, make my footprints fly.
I didn't make the connection. My shuttles home, I'm gonna cry
And the tears in my helmet made it hard to see.
My head started spinning and my knees were weak
But then my ears didn't fool me,
From not to far, there was a beat,
And then some singing, yeah.
"You are not alone"
Said the rumble, under my feet.
"I've been so alone, if you walk to me, we can meet."
It was a voice that I'd never heard, but a presence to which I was familiar.
I glide in the direction that the sound drew me. It was a long way, a journey.
The white rocks that were below me started to fight with my feet.
The moon surface below me started to crack apart into a smile.
It was then that I realized,
I was standing on a face that I'd seen many times.
And then my eyes weren't playing games,
From right below me, there was a smile,
And then some singing, yeah.
"You are not alone"
Said the rumble, under my feet.
"I've been so alone, if you walk to me, we can meet."

I had become the savior of the man on the moon.
I'd stay to solve his loneliness and not go home soon.
And all we had was this old tune,
In not too long, we'd kill the gloom.
